Division renamed Knowledge Engineering: ‘where ideas and people meet’

The Texas Engineering Extension Service announced the renaming of the Knowledge Engineering division, previously known as Technology & Economic Development. The name change was approved by the agency in March, and will become official on Sept. 1, 2010. However, rebranding is already occurring, so watch for changes on the 5th floor of the Connally Building, on the website and in marketing materials. The Knowledge Engineering open house will be coming this fall.

Knowledge Engineering Division Director Lesa Hill said division staff and branding consultants conducted a thorough branding analysis and internal capabilities assessment that led to the new name. She said the new name better reflects what the division does and prepares it for future opportunities. The division is also home to the Knowledge Engineering Center (KEC), the training software products and eLearning development program, which received Board of Regents approval in 1999.

“All of the division’s programs (Economic Development, Market Intelligence, Workforce Training, Manufacturing Assistance and KEC’s training software products) are engineering knowledge in various ways and for different customers,” Hill said.

“We felt like the new brand better communicates what we do and what sets us apart. We all listen to our customers needs and aspirations, we research the best options, develop a plan to help them achieve their goals or solve their problem, and then we create and implement solutions. This concept is also the basis for our external branding message, ‘where ideas and people meet.'”
