A&M System members team up to improve forensics training in Texas
An agreement signed by officials with the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and Tarleton State University will improve the training of forensic technicians and investigators in Texas, while providing an opportunity for some to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration.

Port Authority Bus Terminal holds mock bombing drill at EOTC
TEEX’s Emergency Operations Training Center (EOTC) was the scene recently of a computer-simulated emergency drill for The Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan – the largest and busiest bus terminal in the world. This was the first time the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Lincoln Tunnel had held a joint emergency drill, and about 49 emergency response personnel and officials from New York City and The Port Authority participated in the exercise.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Retraining wounded veterans for career as UXO Technician
Some veterans in the Wounded Warriors program are interested in the UXO Technician I training program offered by TEEX. On Nov. 18, a veteran of the war in Iraq with a prosthetic leg will be demonstrating the possibilities for wounded veterans to participate in this career field.

Course focuses on medical response to bombing incidents
TEEX has joined with New Mexico Tech to offer a new Department of Homeland Security-certified course for medical personnel who may respond to an explosion or bombing incident. The 16-hour course is offered at no cost to jurisdictions nationwide as part of the DHS/FEMA Homeland Security National Training Program under the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC).

OSHA funds work zone safety program for Spanish-speaking highway workers
TEEX has received a Susan Harwood grant from OSHA to fund a new work zone safety initiative aimed at Spanish-speaking highway construction workers in the five-state OSHA Region VI covered by the OSHA Training Institute Southwest Education Center.

2010 Meter School draws record number of participants
The 2010 Southwest Electrical Metering Assocation (SWEMA) Texas Meter School drew a record 179 participants to the Texas A&M Riverside Campus in Bryan on Oct. 25-29. Attendees came from 12 states and from as far away as Brazil.
