Twenty Qatar Petroleum (QP) Fire Protection Program trainees are beginning their fourth week of a 20-week basic recruit academy conducted by TEEX at the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) in Ras Laffan, Qatar. The Pro Board certification course is the first course delivery for the TEEX team in Qatar.
TEEX is facilitating the creation of a first-of-its kind economic development strategy for the City of Prairie View, which is home to Prairie View A&M University. The effort has been dubbed the “Communi-Versity Economic Development Initiative.”

The explosion of a natural gas pipeline on Sept. 9 in San Bruno, Calif.,is the latest incident that demonstrates the importance of TEEX’s role in training responders in pipeline safety and emergency response operations. TEEX has a state-of-the-art, 2,300-foot underground pipeline at the Brayton Fire Training Field with eight above-ground training props and a loading terminal designed specifically for training responders to manage and mitigate pipeline emergencies and hazardous materials leaks.

Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) urban search and rescue team will be recognized at the Texas A&M vs. Louisiana Tech football game at Kyle Field on Sept. 11. More than 135 current and former Task Force members will be recognized during the pregame activities as part of Texas First Responders Day. Nine years ago, the Task Force was mobilized when the 9/11 attacks occurred, and 74 team members responded to the site of the World Trade Center, spending nine days working around the clock at Ground Zero in New York City.

A new TEEX 240-hour Heavy Equipment Operator Training program has graduated its first class, providing the graduates with hands-on skills training that can serve as a “stepping stone” to a job in the construction field. The program was a collaborative effort of TEEX and the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.
The Economic Development Administration (EDA), of the U.S. Department of Commerce, has awarded more than $516,000 to TEEX for a statewide education program on sustainable and green economic development opportunities for rural and economically distressed areas of Texas.
