TEEX has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Belgium Civil Protection unit, which is part of the Belgium Ministry of Home Affairs. The agreement will allow the two organizations to exchange experience, information, training and technology.
Driving collisions are the second leading cause of injury and death in the fire service, but Texas firefighters now have access to a state-of-the-art emergency vehicle driving simulator. The mobile MPRI FireSim™ driving simulator was purchased by TEEX through a grant from FEMA to provide training to improve driver decision-making and vehicle handling. Housed in a 32-foot trailer, the simulator will be traveling across the state to fire departments, TEEX area fire schools and other special events corodinated by the TEEX Fire Extension Training Program.
TEEX is offering two new courses that address the threats against the nation’s Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources (CIKR). The courses are certified by the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA.
TEEX’s Knowledge Engineering Center is developing the website for the American Clearinghouse on Educational Facilities, as part of a Department of Education grant awarded to Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX. The project’s goal is to assist the educational community in the planning, design, financing, construction, improvement, operations and maintenance of educational facilities.
Two training courses have been conducted by the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) for Qatar Petroleum (QP) Regional Fire Departments – Fire Instructor and Fire Officer (Crew Command) courses. Thirty-eight QP employees have completed both levels of training: Fire Instructor I and Fire Officer I.
The Growing Green – Aransas Pass conference on Feb. 24-25 at the Aransas Pass Civic Center will focus on how sustainable industries and technologies can boost the South Texas economy. Conference topics will include renewable energy projects, sustainable practices in agriculture, water conservation technologies, energy-saving ideas, tax credits, state and federal incentives, financing tools and best practices.
The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) today announced plans to immediately reduce staffing at the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (NERRTC). Forty-two people are affected by the announcement, which includes both salaried and hourly staff members. TEEX attributes the layoffs to significant funding reductions from the state.
In a unique arrangement with TEEX, students at Texas A&M University earned elective credit hours between semesters by attending a weeklong course offered through the Texas Forensic Science Academy (TFSA) last week. The students, who are enrolled in the Texas A&M Forensic and Investigative Sciences program, earned credit for attending the crime scene investigation course.
Five employees with the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) received the agencyÂ’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, at a recent ceremony held at the Brazos Expo Center. Employees who received the top award were Larry Dyer, Keith McLeroy, Elizabeth Morris, Joan Quintana and Jeff Saunders.
Anthony “Tony” Alotto and Leslie “Les” Bunte received the prestigious Regents Fellow Service Award from The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.
