Course Description

This seminar uses one of four case studies to examine the dynamics of crisis leadership and decision making from an elected or community leaders prospective.  This four-hour seminar explores recent case studies to frame the discussion regarding methods to overcome leadership challenges in planning and responding to a large-scale incident.  The seminar’s outcome is developing individual and jurisdictional action plans to guide improved preparedness and emergency response.

  • Hurricane Harvey: Chaos on the Gulf Coast
  • Mayhem at Mandalay Bay
  • The Camp Fire: Crisis in California
  • Fear and Realities: Managing Ebola in Dallas

Prerequisites

Reading the selected case study provided prior to attending the seminar.

Course Completion Requirements

Participants are required to score a 70% or better on the Post-Test to receive a course certificate of completion.

Participants will need access to a laptop or mobile device/tablet during the course in order to complete course testing and evaluations electronically.

Participants Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as component of sussesfule course completeion.

  • In order to effectively participate in the discussion, all attendees should read the case study provided prior to attending the seminar.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Identify the prominent facts of the selected case study.
  • Explain the importance of having plans in place that are adequate, feasible, adaptable, and all-hazards based.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of senior officials in the event of a disaster or emergency.
  • Examine the importance of rapid and accurate communication/information flow as a pivotal function of leadership in a crisis.
