Basic Economic Development Course draws professionals from 8 states

AUSTIN – Sixty economic development professionals attended the Fall 2014 Basic Economic Development Course, which was held Sept. 9-12, in Austin, TX. The course attracted economic development professionals from across Texas and seven other states.

“All 60 seats were filled early, and we see no signs of slowing down going forward,” said Program Manager Lisa Mutchler. “The quality of our program is drawing professionals from other states, even though similar programs are held across the country.”

The TEEX Economic Development Program, in partnership with the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), coordinates the course for entry-level economic development professionals. Participants leave with a comprehensive understanding of the keys of successful economic development. The course also serves as the equivalent to IEDC’s Intro to Economic Development Course, the first step in becoming an IEDC Accredited Economic Development professional.

“From the well-prepared presentations and class activities to the great suggestions for where-to-go; everything was beautifully organized and thoughtfully planned,” said Sharon Barnard of the Victoria Economic Development Corporation. “I especially appreciated how the message of doing good work for the good of our community was endorsed each day. The week was encouraging and fun with ample take-away ideas!”

Jean Moreno, Program Administrator with the City of Glendale, AZ, added: “The BEDC was great. Thanks for all of the work the presenters put into development of a top-notch curriculum. It was a lot of material, but I really enjoyed it.”

The Winter Basic Economic Development Course will be held on Feb. 3-6, 2015, at the Omni Colonnade in San Antonio, TX.
