Construction underway on new rescue campus adjacent to Disaster City

COLLEGE STATION – Construction has begun on a new Rescue Classroom and Office Building at Brayton Fire Training Field. The 100 x 120-foot facility is being built on the new rescue campus adjacent to Disaster City®, with a target completion date of August 2015.

The $3.1 million facility will have six classrooms of various sizes with partitions to allow numerous configurations of the space. The building will also house the TEEX Rescue Program offices and related equipment. This project is part of the Brayton Fire Field development/expansion plan, said Gordon Lohmeyer, Executive Associate Director of TEEX Emergency Services Training Institute.

Phase one of this project has been completed and includes new roadways and infrastructure upgrades on the 17.8 acres, south of Disaster City, that was purchased in 2013. The second phase of the project is represented by the Rescue Classroom building, and the third phase will be to relocate all existing rescue training props to this area, Lohmeyer said.

These moves will consolidate rescue training facilities and classrooms into a centralized area, he added.

Once the new building is completed, several portable buildings will be removed, including classrooms #79 and #119 as well as office building #118, said John Coppernoll, Director of Facilities Maintenance and Construction.

The building contractor is Quad-Tex Construction.
