Record Attendance at the TEEX Leadership Development Symposium

The seventh annual TEEX Leadership Development Symposium attracted a record-breaking 870 emergency responders to San Marcos, TX, on Jan. 12-14 for sessions on management, leadership, budgeting and safety issues in fire and emergency services.

Featured speakers at the symposium this year included author and former Southwest Airlines CEO Jim Parker, author and leadership expert Capt. David Marquet (retired), and Mike Lipkin, president of Environics/Lipkin.

In memory of the fallen firefighters from Texas in 2014, a tribute flame burned during the entire symposium, which was held at the Embassy Suites Conference Center.

The annual symposium is coordinated by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and funded, in part, by Texas general revenue funds. TEEX partnered with the San Marcos Fire Department, and received the assistance of multiple fire departments in the surrounding areas.

There was no registration fee for Texas resident emergency responders, and sessions are geared to meet continuing education requirements for Texas fire officers and EMS personnel.
