Legislative Day gives leaders an overview of Texas emergency response
COLLEGE STATION – Legislative Day at the Municipal Fire School drew 21 Legislative staffers and State Rep. John Raney to College Station on July 25 to learn more about the training, 
accomplishments and challenges of Texas emergency responders.
accomplishments and challenges of Texas emergency responders.The event was sponsored by the State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas (SFFMA), the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).
The group traveled from Austin or their home jurisdiction to Bryan-College Station where they toured the RELLIS Campus and learned about the TEEX and TFS response to Hurricane Harvey. The visitors had the opportunity to operate a bulldozer used for wildland firefighting, watch a drone demonstration and learn more about the emergency response resources provided to the state by the Texas A&M Forest Service.
The group then traveled toTEEX’s Brayton Fire Training Field to observe hands-on training at the 89th Annual Municipal Fire School and meet with constituents attending the school. They observed rescue scenarios and live-fire demonstrations. Some even donned bunker gear and participated in a firefighting scenario in a controlled environment. “It is critically important that we continually and consistently engage and educate our elected leaders on what TEEX does in executing our ‘Extension’ mission and how it impacts the state of Texas and local communities,” said TEEX Deputy Director Al Davis. “In addition, this event is a value-added opportunity for us to work collaboratively with our sister agencies like the Texas A&M Forest Service.”
