Public invited to firefighting demonstration on July 24

COLLEGE STATION — The public is invited to witness firefighters in action as they battle large, intense blazes at the annual TEEX Public Firefighting Demonstration on Wednesday, July 24, at Brayton Fire Training Field. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the event is free.

The demonstration will begin by 7:30 p.m. as instructors with the 90th Annual Municipal Fire Training School explain and demonstrate techniques used to extinguish fires on several full-scale, live-fire training props. The Municipal Fire Training School is the largest school of its kind in the world, and is the last of three summer fire training schools held each year at Brayton Fire Training Field. This week’s school has nearly 1,500 participants and over 450 guest instructors and safety officers.

Earlier this month, the Industrial Fire School drew 736 firefighters from some of the largest petrochemical companies in the world, and the Escuela para Bomberos en Espanol attracted 375 Spanish-speaking firefighters from 19 countries.

The annual Texas Fire Training Schools and the Public Firefighting Demo Night are hosted by the Emergency Services Training Institute of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).
