Fourteen students will earn the Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Rescue Specialist Certificate after completing the Advanced Structural Collapse 5 course on Friday, May 16. The certificate recognizes members of US&R teams who have completed more than 300 hours of rigorous, advanced training in structural collapse, rescue operations and other specialized search and rescue training.
Nine future physicians learned about disaster medicine first-hand in a unique classroom, Disaster City®. The fourth-year Texas A&M medical students saw a new side of emergency medicine, through an “eye-opening experience” that pushed them out of their comfort zone and gave them a different perspective.
The TEEX Paramedic Program has been awarded full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), a national accrediting agency for 24 health science professions. The 1,033-hour program is approved for CEUs by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), and is eligible for college credit through the American Council on Education (ACE).

The unique computer simulation training tool, designed for classes held on-site at TEEXÂ’s Emergency Operations Training Center, is going mobile. A new web-based version of the Emergency Management*Exercise System (EM*ES) proprietary simulation software will allow TEEX to take some advanced incident command and Emergency Operations Center classes on the road.
TEEX needed a more durable hazmat suit for an extreme emergency response training environment, and worked with Kappler to develop a new prototype, the “TEEX” suit. The new design is more like an actual hazmat response suit and is now used for training at Brayton Fire Training Field.
A new reciprocity policy approved by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) will provide TCFP certification for select Pro Board certifications issued by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).
Nearly 400 members of the fire service attended the 26th Annual Spring Fire Training School on March 2-7 and experienced the weather extremes of Texas. The students took it all in stride, attending one of 20 TEEX courses offered at Brayton Fire Training Field in a variety of specializations.

A new search and rescue project under construction at Disaster City® will incorporate lessons learned from Texas Task Force 1 deployments in 2013 to West, TX, and Moore, OK. The project is expected to be completed in April, and will be used by search and rescue personnel and canine teams.
