Driving simulator will improve training, save lives of Texas firefighters

Driving collisions are the second leading cause of injury and death in the fire service, but Texas firefighters now have access to a state-of-the-art emergency vehicle driving simulator. The mobile MPRI FireSim™ driving simulator was purchased by TEEX through a grant from FEMA to provide training to improve driver decision-making and vehicle handling. Housed in a 32-foot trailer, the simulator will be traveling across the state to fire departments, TEEX area fire schools and other special events corodinated by the TEEX Fire Extension Training Program.

First TEEX recruit fire training program in Qatar gets under way

Twenty Qatar Petroleum (QP) Fire Protection Program trainees are beginning their fourth week of a 20-week basic recruit academy conducted by TEEX at the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) in Ras Laffan, Qatar. The Pro Board certification course is the first course delivery for the TEEX team in Qatar.

California explosion demonstrates need for TEEX pipeline emergency training

The explosion of a natural gas pipeline on Sept. 9 in San Bruno, Calif.,is the latest incident that demonstrates the importance of TEEX’s role in training responders in pipeline safety and emergency response operations. TEEX has a state-of-the-art, 2,300-foot underground pipeline at the Brayton Fire Training Field with eight above-ground training props and a loading terminal designed specifically for training responders to manage and mitigate pipeline emergencies and hazardous materials leaks.

Legislators battle blazes to gain perspective on state’s firefighter training

Nearly 40 Texas Legislators and staff members were in College Station Wednesday, along with staff members serving U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn and U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, to learn more about the training that Texas firefighters receive to better protect citizens and property.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Nearly 2,000 firefighters take the heat to improve skills

The 81st Annual Municipal Fire Training School is under way this week. It’s the largest school of its kind in the world. This year, more than 1,900 students and 502 guest instructors and safety officers are in attendance. The school is hosted by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in conjunction with the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas.

700 Spanish-speaking firefighters in College Station for 2010 Fire School

Almost 700 Spanish-speaking firefighters are at the Brayton Fire Training Field for a week of challenging, intense training that covers topics from basic firefighting operations and hazardous materials incidents to rescue techniques and officer development. The 44th annual Spanish Fire Training School (Escuela para Bomberos en Español) classes began on Monday, July 12, and continue through Friday.
