Texas Task Force 1 deploying to Haiti to support search and rescue operation

Texas Governor Rick Perry has authorized Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) to deploy at the request of FEMA to support search and rescue operations in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. This deployment marks the first international deployment since the team was established in 1998. The task force will deploy to the Caribbean nation aboard Department of Defense aircraft from Houston on the afternoon of Jan. 14. TX-TF1 will be joining other task forces that have been activated from Virginia, California and Florida.

Swiftwater rescue teams, helicopters deploy to Lufkin and Longview

Three swiftwater rescue teams and two Texas Military Forces UH-60 helicopters with TX-TF1 rescue technicians aboard were deployed to the city of Lufkin. Two UH-60 helicopters and TX-TF1 rescue technicians also moved to the city of Longview. Three swiftwater rescue teams are also being staged in College Station this afternoon for potential forward deployment later in the day.

Texas Task Force 1 deploys in advance of potential flooding

Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) will deploy today in advance of continued heavy rain expected across east Texas over the next two days. This deployment is part of the State’s effort to preposition and assist jurisdictions if conditions deteriorate. The National Weather Service predicts the possibility of heavy rain over much of Southeast Texas stretching east of Interstate 45 corridor from Houston to Dallas.
