With Tropical Storm Edouard approaching the Texas coast and expected to make landfall as a possible hurricane by Tuesday morning, Texas Task Force 1 has been activated by the Governors Division of Emergency Management.
All of the states coordinated search and rescue assets including those of College Station-based Texas Task Force 1 and Dallas-based Texas Task Force 2 have assisted local cities and counties in dealing with more than 300 calls for rescue or assistance.
Although answering numerous calls for service, members of Texas Task Force 1 thankfully have not encountered widespread structural damage in the Rio Grande Valley; however, there continues to be significant flooding in some areas.
As winds of up to 90 mph and heavy rainfall from Hurricane Dolly affect the Rio Grande Valley, members of Texas Task Force 1 and other state search and rescue assets continue to assist local elected officials in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) are preparing for the deployment of search and rescue assets due to potential landfall of Tropical Storm Dolly along the Texas coast.
