Wiatt Physical Skills Training Complex will enhance programs for Police Academy cadets

The $2.2 million Robert E “Bob” Wiatt Physical Skills Training Complex at the Texas A&M Riverside Campus was dedicated May 16 at a ceremony that drew Texas A&M University System dignitaries, local law enforcement officials, cadets from the Central Texas Police Academy and family and friends of the late Robert E. “Bob” Wiatt. The 3,100-square-foot facility will serve the cadets of TEEX’s Central Texas Police Academy.

Bethel University agreement gives TEEX students a pathway to college degree

Students who train with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and are interested in applying their technical training toward a degree in higher education have a new opportunity through Bethel University in Tennessee. The Bethel University College of Public Service has agreed to provide TEEX students up to 47 hours of elective college credit toward the 128 hours required to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree, which can be completed online.

New online Public Safety Telecommunicator course launched

A new online Public Safety Telecommunicator course offered by the TEEX Law Enforcement Extension Program is expected to help local law enforcement agencies facing tight budgets. The course is designed to meet training requirements set by TCLEOSE to prepare public safety dispatch personnel to achieve the TCLEOSE Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate.

Texas Forensic Science Academy receives $425,000 grant to train crime scene investigators

The Texas Forensic Science Academy (TFSA) at TEEX has received a $425,000 training grant from the Governor’s Office, Texas Criminal Justice Division. The grant will allow TFSA to deliver 27 tuition-free courses to over 540 crime scene investigators across the State of Texas.

TEEX marks the 70th anniversary of law enforcement extension training in Texas

2012 marks the 70th anniversary of the beginnings of formal law enforcement extension training in Texas. The training was initially offered by the Industrial Extension Training Service of Texas A&M University, the forerunner of the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). The anniversary is being commemorated by the TEEX Public Safety & Security division, which continues to conduct extension law enforcement training across the state and operates the Central Texas Police Academy.
