New classroom-based cyber-security courses aimed at assisting communities

The Texas Engineering Extension Service has added three face-to-face cyber-security courses to complement its suite of no-cost online courses geared toward assisting the state, local, tribal, public and private sectors to detect, prevent, respond and recover from cyber attacks and incidents. TEEX acquired the courses from the University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS).

Wisconsin launches emergency management Training Portal designed by TEEX

Wisconsin Emergency Management has launched the Training Portal developed and hosted by the TEEX’s Knowledge Engineering Center (KEC). Wisconsin is the third state to use the KEC software product. The training portal allows emergency managers, first responders and others to register online for local, state and federal classes, keep track of courses completed and even print certificates.

Eleven honored with Growing Green Awards at statewide conference

Nine projects and two elected officials were honored with a 2011 Growing Green Communities Award for promoting sustainable rural development. The awards showcase the best initiatives for creating economic value and opportunity through environmental stewardship, energy conservation and sustainable practices in Texas rural communities.

Course focuses on medical response to bombing incidents

TEEX has joined with New Mexico Tech to offer a new Department of Homeland Security-certified course for medical personnel who may respond to an explosion or bombing incident. The 16-hour course is offered at no cost to jurisdictions nationwide as part of the DHS/FEMA Homeland Security National Training Program under the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC).
